University of Illinois is known for its library system. Ranked the second largest among Universities in the United States, the U of I library system is only bested by Harvard. So proud of being a U of I student! I always feel like I am in a paradise of books and resources. There are several aspects of library in U of I that I like.
First of all, if you want to find somewhere to study, libraries are available anywhere, anytime. There are so many libraries on campus. I can name some of my favorites: Mathematics Library, the library in Busey-Evans, and of course Grainger. I can never get things done in my room, since I will keep on procrastinating and watching video of cats on YouTube nonstop. It is of essence for me to find a quiet place to just focus on study, and I have to say that I am indeed spoiled by all sorts of libraries on campus. The best part is that university housing is equipped with one or more fine libraries. When I was a freshman, I enjoyed doing work in the library in Busey-Evans underground. It is so easy to reach and convenient. When I moved out, I studied at Grainger.
Second, when you are checking your reading list, library is the best place to go. The library system can send the book you want to borrow from UGL (undergraduate library) to the library in your resident hall. In this way, you do not need to run all the way to UGL to get your book. Just simply go downstairs to library and the book is right there waiting for you. What is more, there are also all sorts of fun stuff that you can rent from libraries. Video games, movies, music…you name it.
Additionally, when it comes to research and academics, the library is definitely necessary. UGL provides consulting for researching as well as Writer’s Workshop, so that you can get help from an expert in writing and researching. Also, when you are searching for essays and journals, the library websites and archive are helpful. Once I had to find an essay but I could not find it anywhere. When I almost gave up, I found out that I could request the essay even when it is not stored in University of Illinois. As a result, I requested the essay. In a week or two, the library contacted me and I was surprised that I found the essay that I had been looking for! It stated that it is from a German university and I was so happy that I could get such great resource easily.
I am so thankful that our University has such a great library system. I benefit from them all the time and if you have not, just explore libraries more and you will fall in love with them!
