The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship application is now available. Fifteen $2,000 undergraduate scholarships, five $5,000 graduate fellowships, and five $5,000 professional fellowships will be awarded for the 2014 - 2015 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2014 and the application can be accessed here: http://www.uic.edu/depts/ovcsa/sch_mlk.shtml .

Criteria:
Graduate and Professional Students Must:
* Be currently enrolled at UIC; and
* Have completed at least one semester at UIC as a graduate/professional student; and
* Be considered an underrepresented citizen or resident alien as defined by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (African American, Hispanic, Asian American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, women, persons with disabilities, and students identified as first-generation college participants). * Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement (as determined by the appropriate UIC department or college); and
* Maintain full-time enrollment for the 2014 - 2015 academic year; and
* Not be a past graduate or professional student recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship; and
* Be a citizen or resident alien as defined by the federal government (for more specific information, visithttp://www.uic.edu/depts/financialaid/scholarships.shtml ); and
* Have no disciplinary record in the Office of the Dean of Students; and
* Not be a UIC employee (student workers and graduate assistants are eligible)
Note: This award may impact other campus-based financial aid. Consultation with the Financial Aid Office will be done prior to the distribution of any monetary award.
General Instructions
* The personal statement must include information about the applicant's career objectives, plans for graduate or professional study, and community/campus service activities.
* One of the two letters of recommendation MUST be from a faculty member who has taught the student in the classroom and/or laboratory setting, and can assess the student's potential for graduate study.
* Applicants authorize the release of their academic record by completing this online application. The Selection Committee will print an unofficial transcript to be used in evaluating this application.
