Did you know that Chicago has a 30-year life expectancy gap? It is the largest gap in the nation!
Come to this workshop and learn about Chicago's health disparities and the role that social and structural determinants of health have in causing disparate health outcomes within the communities of Chicago. Furthermore, we will discuss how COVID-19 exacerbated these barriers and potential data analysis methods to explore these disparities.
Also, we will teach you how to utilize UIC’s School of Public Health and the City of Chicago’s data to analyze these inequalities and provide you with the skills to do so on through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The skills taught in this workshop can serve as a jumping-off point for your very own research project!!!
