M 1:00 – 1:50 pm
Research has shown significant benefits of regular physical exercise. This class focuses on running, and aerobic exercise, to build cardiovascular strength. The advantages of running include reducing stress and the risk of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension, strengthening muscles, knees, joints, and bones, improving memory, increasing productivity, helping sleep, and creating a community of belonging. All of these benefits enhance physical and mental health and longevity. This course equips students with knowledge in overall training, including pace considerations on short and long runs, strength training through anaerobic exercises such as weightlifting, yoga, and pilates, track and speed workouts, gear, nutrition, and resources. Guest speakers from running organizations and clubs, recreational and elite athletes from various professions such as lawyers, doctors, engineers, consultants, IT, researchers, and teachers racing distances ranging from 1 mile to marathons and triathlons will bring their experience to the classroom. These experiences will shed light on the students who are new to the sport or have had some exposure but want to improve their performance and experience.
As an optional exercise, students will have the opportunity to run with the instructor once a week!
