Job Description

At the University of Illinois College of Medicine, we are building a culture of care and accessibility. This position will fill a critical need of providing medical students with transcriptions of their lecture materials. You can truly make a difference by supporting future generations of physicians in their medical education. Medical Lecture Transcribers will work up to 15 hours per week and will be transcribing video-recorded lectures in the medical curriculum. Medical Lecture Transcribers will coordinate with other teammates to provide accurate transcriptions of lecture materials by established deadlines.
Job Duties
Under the close supervision of University of Illinois College of Medicine staff members, the Medical Lecture Transcriber may perform all or part of the following duties:
- Uses Echo360 and various business software applications to create and/or edit transcriptions of video-recorded lectures in medical education.
- Proofreads lecture transcriptions from Echo360 recording software for accuracy.
- Maintains archive of transcription files.
- Maintains progress log on work, tasks, and transcription documents.
- Actively communicates with team members and supervisors on transcription editing status.
- Operates standard office equipment.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of English 160 and 161 (with a minimum grade of B) or exemption from the composition requirement. Two (2) years of related experience or at least two years of University coursework. Must currently be in good academic standing. Accurate typing at 40 words per minute minimum. Working knowledge of basic English grammar, usage, and punctuation. Knowledge of terminology related to the health sciences, medicine, biochemistry, molecular, and cellular biology; ability to exercise editorial judgement based upon terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with transcribing academic lectures and content. Prior experience using Echo360 recording software.
*Students who are pre-medicine or current medical students are not eligible for this position.
