HON 142 The Real Made Magical: Strategies of Speculative Fiction and Poetry

Speculative literature works by imagining or speculating about a world very different than our own, with different and sometimes inexplicable rules and features including things like magic, non-human characters, or advanced science. In this course, we will explore stories in order to delineate the literary strategies that distinguish five sub-genres of speculative literature: fabulism, fairy tale, the gothic, magical realism, and science fiction.
