More information about our club:
Our club has two main focuses.
First, we host smaller fundraisers throughout the year and a large Relay for Life fundraiser in the spring to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This money goes towards helping uninsured and underinsured cancer patients pay for their medical care, funds guest houses for families of patients to stay with their loved ones as they undergo treatment, and is a major source of grant funding for cancer research.
Our second focus is on raising awareness about cancer on campus, with events that focus on reducing cancer risk factors as individuals, hearing survivors' stories and honoring them, and showcasing the careers that we can pursue to serve cancer patients. We'll also plan a variety of outreach, advocacy, and service activities throughout the year. This year we have partnered extensively with Be the Match to sign people up for the stem cell donor registry, have worked with the Cancer Action Network to petition in support of paid sick leave, volunteered at the Hot Chocolate Run for St. Jude's, have made cards for hospice patients at Rush, and have hosted a Luminaria Night in honor of those touched by cancer.
