The College of Education, Department of Educational Psychology is excited to announce new elective courses as a part of a new minor in instructional design and training (IDT), with courses beginning in Fall 2022!
Take courses that give you real design skills for wherever your career takes you.
IDT is a new 4-course minor open to all majors that gives real experience and skills with designing learning experiences and training materials that have an impact. Professionals must learn new things each day in any industry or setting. Whatever your career goals, increase your workplace skills in building cutting-edge educational and training products that actually work for professionals to learn.
The courses in IDT are focused on authentic hands-on experience with education and training design principles. Students will make products that can be showcased in portfolios or to prospective employers that demonstrate skill in educational design.
No prior courses in education are required to take these elective courses being offered in the fall. Our IDT courses welcome anyone from any major and are taught with an expectation that students may be newcomers to educational design and theories on learning. Courses in this minor are open to students from any college or department without admission to the minor. The minor can be applied for by students who meet the qualifications.

FALL COURSES BEING OFFERED:
EPSY 380 - Instructional Design and Training – 3 Credits (CRN 37276)
A great general course on design! Learn the basics of designing learning and training experiences for all fields and industries. Learn to build engaging educational products, such as project/problem-based learning, simulations, gamification, app-based learning, and distance education and training using state-of-the-art tools that are in high demand in the workforce. Students will get direct practice with skills through the semester by designing an educational product of their own in consultation with both the instructor and peers.

EPSY 450 - Assessment and Evaluation of Learning Products – 3 credits (CRN 37178)
Valuable skills for determining whether training and learning products, such as curricula, trainings, or educational games meet their intended outcomes. Students will learn actionable methods, tools, and analytics for evaluating products and how evaluations can directly inform improvements to products.
