Via the UIC Social-Emotional Teaching & Learning lab:
The UIC Social-Emotional Teaching & Learning lab in the Department of Psychology seeks two qualified Spanish-speaking Undergraduate Research Assistants (URA) for paid positions to support the lab’s research efforts.
New URAs will join a dynamic team in watching and coding videos collected in Chicago area preschool classrooms, receive training in multiple research tools and methods, and learn about applied research that directly benefits children and families in our community.
As a condition of employment, the research assistants will need to attend a virtual synchronous assessment training on February 25th and 26th. After the training, the URA will need to complete and pass the assessment publisher’s reliability test. The URA will be compensated for their time completing the training and reliability test, regardless of their reliability status.
The URA will work about 10 hours a week during the academic year, with the possibility of employment during the summer. URAs can complete work on or off-campus, but in-person attendance at team meetings is preferred. Compensation will be based on university pay scales for hourly student employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Attend the virtual CLASS Pre-K training on February 25th and 26th
-Become reliable on the CLASS Pre-K tool
- Review video assignments and complete within the allotted timeline
-Watch videos and code them using the CLASS Pre-K tool
-Participate in consensus coding discussions with other coders
-Utilize the Slack platform for lab and assignment communications
-Attend bi-weekly lab meetings (Wednesdays from 2:30-4) preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
-Spanish fluency required
-Must be able to work approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year; the possibility exists for summer employment
-Experience with psychology, early childhood education, or human development preferred
