The UIC University Library and UIC researchers engaged in the All of Us research initiative are offering an 8 week summer program to introduce undergraduate students to accessing and exploring the All of Us Researcher Bioinformatics Workbench, connect them with faculty who are working with the All of Us program, and to explore opportunities for health science and bioinformatics research arising from secondary use of the All of Us dataset.
The All of Us Research Program stands as a monumental endeavor to gather and analyze data from a vast populace, with the ultimate objective of fostering improved health outcomes for everyone. More information about the All of Us program is available here: https://researchguides.uic.edu/allofus
The program will runs from June 4th to August 2nd consisting of:
1.) Attending twice weekly seminars related to accessing and using the All of Us Researcher workbench and topics related to conducting health science and bioinformatics research
a.) Seminars will typically be held Tuesdays / Thursdays 10-11 CDT
b.) Participants will need to attend at least 80% of seminars to receive the honorarium
2.) Create an All of Us Research workbench account and explore using the dataset
3.) Participate in seminar presentations with Health Sciences faculty
4.) Present your data exploration findings on Thursday, August 1st
This program will include a range of biomedical informatics topics, and content such as introduction to the All of Us workbench, exploration of health equity, ethics, and non-disparaging research practices, principles of data management, and how to use additional data sources
Eligibility:
Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from the UIC Honors College with a research interest in health sciences, medical informatics, or bioinformatics.
Students who complete participation in the program will receive a $650 stipend at the end of the summer. They will also be eligible for a Research Activity credit through the Honors College.
This program will accommodate a maximum of 15 students. Students who are selected to participate will be notified by May 17th.
