An Honors College Alumna/us and UIC Medical Student is looking for undergraduate students in the Honors College to help conduct analysis of survey responses, conduct in-person interviews, and transcribe/analyze interview responses. The objective of their study is to understand how medical students seek help for mental distress, such as anxiety and depression, by applying an established behavioral model called the Cycle of Avoidance.
This research opportunity will be helpful in exploring a unique research method, called mixed-methods, and in understanding social phenomena like help-seeking behavior when individuals experience a form of mental distress. Previous experience in these sets of skills is not necessary but would be helpful.
This research is through the James Scholar Program at UICOM and is an independent, student-led research project for medical students under the guidance of mentor Dr. Eric Swirsky who is a clinical associate professor in the College of Applied Health Sciences.
