The Office of Sustainability is currently seeking interns for the 2019 Sustainability Internship Program (SIP) for the summer session. This paid program pairs motivated undergraduate interns with mentors on campus in a hands-on learning experiences; this program supports the achievement of the UIC’s Climate Commitments of being Carbon Neutral, Zero Waste, Net Zero Water and Biodiverse campus by 2050.
This unique program provides an intellectual framework for students to apply classroom learning to project-based engagement. SIP builds on five previous semester-long sessions where over 150 student interns were placed in over 25 departments across campus. Students worked with their onsite mentor to implement sustainability projects on a variety of topics including: recycling improvements, food waste recovery, environmental data collection, bicycling infrastructure and much more.
The Summer 2019 internship program will run May 27 – July 29; in addition to a weekly seminar held on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., students will be expected to commit approximately 15-30 hours a week to their internship project.
