The tutoring application is now available online and can be found here. Please make sure you have scheduled your classes and have an idea of your fall availability before submitting the application. The deadline to submit the tutoring application for Fall 2019 is Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:59pm. There will not be an opportunity to apply later in the summer or at the start of the fall semester.
Requirements:
- Must be in at least your second year (have completed two semesters) at UIC by the time you begin tutoring
- Must have a 3.4 UIC cumulative GPA or higher
- Must be in good standing with the Honors College
- Must commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week (schedule will be developed based on availability and regular tutoring hours for the semester)
- Must be available at 4:00pm on Thursdays for a monthly tutor meeting (Dates subject to change, but likely Aug. 29, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, and Dec. 5)
Tutors will be selected and contacted via email before the start of the fall semester. If you are selected as a tutor, you will be asked to register for HON 202 (Honors Tutoring – 0 credits) for the semester, confirm/finalize your schedule within the first two weeks of classes, and attend a required training session on Thursday, August 29 at 4pm. Please be aware that if you are offered a tutoring role but your availability changes in the fall, you may not be able to maintain your tutoring position. Official tutoring hours begin Week 3 of the fall semester (the week of 9/9/19).
New this semester! Students selected to be an Honors Tutor and who therefore register for HON 202 are able to use Honors Tutoring as an Honors Activity SEPARATE from service activities, which also means that you can use Honors Tutoring more than one semester as an Honors Activity and to earn Honors Units.
