The ICOMPASS Laboratory located in the Department of Physical Therapy at UIC is looking for research assistant volunteers to work on a human subject research study (the INERTIA Study).
Dr. Deepika Laddu is the PI of the INERTIA Study. Specifically, the INERTIA Study is focused on testing a resistance training intervention that is aimed to improve muscle strength and function and reduce blood pressure in older adults with a condition known as sarcopenia.
We are looking for detail-oriented, reliable, meticulous, organized, and self-motivated individuals who are interested in health promotion through lifestyle and behavior modification.
While our preference for students to gain research experience in person (this is the best way to optimize the experience—by working with our participants), we understand in-person contact is a preference. We are able to make accommodations for those students as they can assist with screening and recruiting virtually or over the phone.
Study Information:
• This is a human subjects study so some general requirements will be to complete CITI human subjects and ISP training (online modules, can be completed in a few hours) and other University-required training related to COVID-19.
• Some duties may include data entry, database management, and participant recruitment and screening, scheduling, and designing retention activities (newsletters, etc).
• Advanced students may be involved with measuring lower-extremity muscle strength and physical performance testing related to balance and gait
• Advanced research assistants might have opportunities to be involved in the process of planning, implementing, and presenting research projects (e.g., Capstone projects) and have the opportunity to receive course credit for their work in the lab.
