This is a wonderful essay.  Please consider sending this to the Obama campaign.  In all of the super-patriotism that his opposition barks, you provide more examples of how our forefathers really did think and react, not how much of our current populace thinks they acted.

As a person from the Educational field I must say that learning what the Republican Party is trying to impose makes me very sad for I feel this thought narrows the view of people in general and will force teachers to teach in a certain way that they probably dont agree with. Students could only benefit from learning other languages, culture and literature for example will come along, as well as a better understanding of the world out there.

I don't feel that have to speak English to show my patriotism and I don't think that one should be forced to learn English.  That's the socialist way and not the spirit of America.  It would only be a benefit to the person to learn English so they could go to school or get a better job.

However if they don't want to then let them.  Their kids will learn and eventually it will take care of itself.
