When I joined the MSTM program in June 2015, little did I know that just a few months later Forbes would rate MSTM as the 8th highest master’s degree with the highest salary potential. Both technology management and electronics and communications engineering tied for the number 8 spot. Forbes listed the early career pay for MSTM as $63,600, which is consistent with the salaries current U of I MSTM student are being offered. The mid-career pay is listed as $125,000, not too bad for a one year program, right?
MSTM was surrounded by engineering programs in the rankings. The majority of MSTM students come from STEM backgrounds, and Technology Management is often the bridge between engineering and business. As Technology Management programs become more abundant, and as MSTM alumni prove their worth in the technology industry, I wouldn’t be surprised to see technology climb into Forbes’ top 5 list for master’s degrees with the highest salary potential in the coming years.
