As many of you know it costs a lot of money to create a web form. Even accessibility can take a considerable amount of time. Web Services has recently been contacted by three different states in regards to our Survey and Form Building tools. Illinois and Alabama have reviewed our surveys and forms and approved our approach to accessibility. California is the latest to contact us for a review.
Saving time and money
How can we save you time and money? Many people on campus already use our tools to create forms and surveys. But there are times when you need the data put directly into a database. Thats where we can help you now.
New Export Enhancement
Web Services released a new enhancement today that allows the data from our Survey Builder and Form Builder tools to be exported via an HTTPS URL request. This means a programmer can create a simple program that will extract the data from a Web Services form or survey and insert it into a database. The data we provide is in a standard CSV format. This is the exact same output that you would get if you generated a CSV report manually.
How do I turn this feature on?
By default all surveys and forms will NOT allow data to be extracted. To turn on this feature go to Create/edit for your form or survey and on the new Export tab press yes. We provide two types of export URLs. The fist allows you to get all of your data every time while the second allows you to get data that is newer than a particular timestamp.
How do we protect your data from someone else pulling it down?
On the Export tab we require the IP address of the server that will pull the data down. In both URL examples you will also notice that we have three ten digit keys that are required. You can regenerate the random keys by pressing a button.
If you have any questions on how to export data from a web form into your database just give us a call. We would be more than happy to help save your department time and money.
