Web Services made a change to Email+ allowing for automatic cleanup of bad email addresses. Permanently blocked email addresses will be automatically removed from groups in the Group Manager.
How do we identify bad email addresses? When an email address fails to be delivered due to particular error messages the email address is stored database table. Also stored is the number of times it has consecutively failed to deliver. If an email address sends successfully it is removed from the database table. However if the number of failed attempts reaches eleven the email address is blocked.
Blocked email addresses will not be sent another email for 30 days. After 30 days another attempt will be made, if it succeeds it will be removed from the list. Otherwise it will become blocked again for 30 days. After an email has been blocked consecutively for 3 months it will be considered permanently blocked.
Permanently blocked email address are removed from all groups within the Group Manager. We add an entry into the unsubscribe report for all groups that the email address is removed from. Also anytime someone attempts to add this email address to a group the user will be notified that it is permanently blocked and cannot be added.
Permanently blocked email addresses applies to manually managed groups as well as TED email addresses. To find the permenantly blocked email address run the "Subscription History" report on the Users tab in the Group Manager.
