NRES 472: Environmental Psychology. (THIS COURSE HAS A CAP ON ENROLLMENT. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TAKING IT, PLEASE REGISTER BY MAY 1st TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A SPOT.) This very popular course looks at current environmental theory and practice through frameworks of cognitive psychology, behaviorism, social psychology and intrapersonal psychology. This is a core area course.
NRES 598 XM5: Environmental Communications. This course explores fundamental concepts about social construction of terms like ‘environment’, ‘nature’, and ‘science’. Then focuses on representations of nature in popular culture, green advertising, and the environment as news emphasizing understanding, applying and comparing/contrasting theories in environmental communication. This is an asynchronous course with weekly assignments and deadlines.
NRES 598: Princ. of Environmental Toxicology. This course is a comprehensive examination of environmental contaminant pathways, fate and effect of toxic substances resulting from human activities, and environmental consequences of contaminants. Topics include an introduction to basic principles of toxicology, discussion of differences in species’ response to toxicants, survey of major classes of toxicants, environmental exposures, toxicants in consumer products, and ecotoxicology.
