Urban Rivers, an innovative environmental nonprofit based in Chicago, is recruiting graduate student interns and researchers to help with their floating garden project on the Chicago River.
History: This organization and project began as an NRES Capstone project in 2013. Now, in June 2017, Urban Rivers is a full-fledged nonprofit and installed 166 ft of floating gardens on the east side of Goose Island in Chicago. These 166 ft are only the beginning. Urban Rivers is working with local partners to build a 1/2 mile urban wildlife sanctuary, targeted for 2020.
How to help: Urban Rivers is recruiting graduate students based in the Chicago Area who are interested in interning or building their research projects around the urban wildlife sanctuary. There are opportunities to research fish, plants, birds, macroinvertebrates, volunteer effectiveness and more! They can provide guidance, but are also open to totally fresh ideas--they are flexible for the right motivated candidates.
Capstone Project: NRES students interested in building their capstone around this opportunity should inquire by September 15th in order to begin their capstone project by Spring 2018.
For more information, please express interest to team@urbanriv.org and they will get back to you right away.
