Continuous water-quality monitors can be used in many different aquatic environments settings to provide real-time data that helps address a variety of research topics. As technological advancements provide more economical and reliable instruments to measure broad suites of analytes, reliance upon these monitors continues to grow. A number of considerations need to be made during the deployment of these instruments to maximize their value and minimize their maintenance needs. This session will provide an overview of techniques that can prevent data loss caused by issues such as sensor fouling and instrument failures. These techniques range from considerations made during monitor installations to the programming of data loggers and use of two-way communications.
