The Mianus River Gorge Preserve offers a grant to fund a graduate-level research study that investigates environmental challenges in urban and suburban ecosystems.
Each year, the Mianus River Gorge Preserve (MRGP) awards a competitive $21,000 grant to a graduate student whose research addresses ecological and environmental issues facing urban and suburban ecosystems. Our Research Assistantship Program (RAP) began in 2005 and has funded projects as diverse as the use of fungi in forest regeneration to the evolutionary response of wood frogs to road salt. While our focus has been on ecological communities, we also invite projects on human dimensions research and watershed management.
RAP recipients will receive their award over three years. During that time, RAP recipients are asked to mentor one or two high school students in our Wildlife Technician Program (WTP). High school techs conduct multi-year studies on subjects related to their mentor’s interests.
The application deadline is December 1st, and more information can be found at http://www.mianus.org/what-we-do/research-and-education/graduate-level/rap-application/
