  • Stewardship and Socializing Opportunity - Downer's Grove, IL

    NRES prospective, incoming, and current students, alumni, faculty, and staff will gather for a mid-summer stewardship project to assist with restoring biodiversity and function to our native ecosystem and to socialize with each other.

    When: Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 9:00 am til Noon, followed by lunch (provided)

    Where: Maple Grove Forest Preserve in Downer’s Grove, Illinois

    We will be doing restoration work, so please follow the advice below:

      • Please review and follow the safety guidelines.
      • Bring a water bottle. We will have a cooler from which you can refill it.
      • Wear long pants and long sleeved clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.
      • Wear sturdy shoes/boots. No sandals or open toe shoes are allowed!
      • Wear socks you can tuck your pants legs into.
      • Bring insect repellant and sunscreen (We will have some you can use, but bring your own if you have concerns about ingredients.)
      • If you have work/gardening gloves, you are welcome to bring them. Equipment will be provided by the Forest Preserve of DuPage County.
      • Bring a lawn chair for the picnic, if you have one.

    Please arrive by 8:45 with your signed waivers (note the need for signatures on both pages and those under 18 years old require a parent's signature). 

    Timeline and Details:
    8:45 – 9:00: meet the workday leaders and turn in waivers
    9:00 – 9:15: safety talk and equipment distribution
    9:15 – 11:45: restoration project
    11:45 – 12:00: turn in equipment
    12:00 – ?: Wash up and enjoy lunch (You're welcome to bring cooler clothes to change into, too.)

    Please make sure you note any dietary restrictions in the online registration form.

    Maple Grove Forest Preserve is located in Downers Grove. Please park at the Visitor Lot located on Maple Ave.From Grant St., go west on 55th St. for 5 miles (55th St. turns into Maple Ave).
