On Saturday, February 20, Krannert Art Museum hosted its first Family Walk and Talk. The program is designed to get families talking and engaging with art in the museum with the freedom of moving at their own pace.
Upon arrival, families have the choice between various activity booklets that guide them through the galleries. Each booklet has a central theme pertaining to the works highlighted from the permanent collection. For the first event we had two themes, an Animal Adventure Guide and a Rhythm and Movement Guide.
The goal of the themed activity guides is to help link artworks in the collection across various time periods and cultures while creating a comfortable and interactive environment for the kids. Activities range from matching exercises and creative drawing to comparison and discussion questions.
We were very excited to see how many families came out for the event and enjoyed the enthusiasm shared by both the parents and the kids.
The next Family Walk and Talk event will take place on April 2 from 1-3pm at Krannert Art Museum. The program will introduce new activity guides that will highlight the temporary exhibitions currently on view.
We are also excited to announce the incorporation of a touch-gallery designed to allow families to interact with works of art in a tactile experience.
We hope to see this program continue to grow in the future and we are excited about the opportunities it presents for families of the community to create new memories at KAM.
See you at the museum!
