The University of Illinois Archives seeks an undergraduate assistant for 20 hours per week for the NEH grant-funded project, “The Cybernetics Thought Collective: A History of Science and Technology Portal Project.” Find more information about the Cybernetics Thought Collective project. Hours may only be worked during the University of Illinois Archives open hours: M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The University of Illinois Archives is closed on Sat. & Sun. This position will be based at the University of Illinois Archives located at 146 Library, 1408 W. Gregory Drive in Urbana. The term of the position is 20 weeks.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the University of Illinois Archives staff, the undergraduate assistant will:
*Assist with preparing archival materials for digitization
*Create digitization and archival metadata for materials
*Process digitized materials
*Annotate digital documents
Preferred Skills and Experience:
*Major in history or related discipline
*Strong academics and customer service experience
*Interest or experience in archives or libraries
*Interest in history of science and technology or related discipline
*Experience working with social media platforms and digital tools
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and an ability to work independently, but in close collaboration and consultation with the other members of the Cybernetics Thought Collective Portal Project.
