Tania León will present A Composer’s Voice in the Cuban Diaspora on February 21, 2018 at 6:15 p.m. in the Foellinger Great Hall, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (500 S. Goodwin, Urbana).
Tania León is a composer, founder of Composers Now and founding member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Cuban-American composer Tania León, one of today’s leading musicians, will speak about her experience as a composer and ambassador for the arts, including founding the Dance Theatre of Harlem, and her opera-in-progress, The Little Rock Nine, with libretto by Thulani Davis and historical research by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
This lecture will be followed by a performance by the Illinois Modern Ensemble, conducted by Ms. León. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 pm and features compositions by Ms. León, Ivette Herryman-Rodriguez and Odaline de la Martinez.
