Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE) is an international research project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that is engineering crops to be more productive by improving photosynthesis, the natural process all plants use to convert sunlight into energy and yields. This work is aimed at improving livelihoods of farmers in sub-Saharan Africa by providing greater yields of staple crops including Cassava and cowpea.
