URBANA, Ill. – A funeral procession for University of Illinois Police Lt. Aaron Landers will wind through Urbana and St. Joseph on Tuesday afternoon as loved ones and colleagues honor his life and service.
The procession will begin no earlier than 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Vineyard Church of Central Illinois, 1500 N. Lincoln Ave., Urbana. The procession will end at Patterson Cemetery in St. Joseph.
Following the funeral service at The Vineyard, the procession will head south on Coler Avenue and Orchard Street past the Champaign County Fairgrounds. It will turn west on Church Street to head toward Lincoln Avenue. The procession will then turn north on Lincoln Avenue toward I-74. The Urbana portion of the procession is expected to take 15-20 minutes.
From Lincoln Avenue, the procession will head east on I-74 toward St. Joseph. The eastbound lanes of I-74 will be closed as the procession enters the highway. The expected travel time on I-74 from Urbana to St. Joseph is about 20 minutes.
The procession will exit at St. Joseph and travel south on Main Street, east on Warren Street, and south on Fifth Street before ending at Patterson Cemetery. The St. Joseph portion of the route is expected to take about 15-20 minutes.

Lt. Landers, a 24-year veteran of University Police, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 23 following an off-duty traffic crash. Lt. Landers also served in the U.S. Air Force during Operation Desert Storm, in the 183rd Air National Guard, Springfield. Flags across the state of Illinois were lowered to half-staff in his honor beginning Saturday and continuing through Tuesday.
