URBANA – Drivers are encouraged to avoid campus routes on Thursday, Aug. 24, as thousands of students will be moving into university residence halls and apartments.
All streets in the campus area will be affected, but heavy traffic is expected particularly on Lincoln Avenue, First Street and Springfield Avenue. Those passing through campus are encouraged to alter their routes to Windsor Road or University Avenue.
Traffic may linger throughout the weekend as more students move into apartments and other private property. Travelers should also expect increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The University of Illinois Police Department asks that everyone traveling on campus Thursday and throughout the weekend slow down and be extra cautious.
For movers, please consult the University Housing move-in website at http://housing.illinois.edu/Tools/move-in for more information about traffic flow and other details.
