URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department has made an arrest in a March 7 armed robbery that occurred just off campus.
Kevin C. Beasley, 18, of Urbana, was arrested at 10:12 a.m. Wednesday at the University of Illinois Police Department following the investigation of an incident at 9:35 p.m. March 7 in the 100 block of North Gregory Street, Urbana. Beasley was taken to the Champaign County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday on a preliminary charge of armed robbery.
The robbery occurred just outside of campus boundaries, but UIPD officers were flagged down by a U. of I. student who reported that he had been pushed to the ground and held at gun point while three suspects demanded cash and the student’s cellphone. The phone was later found in the 300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Urbana. The student was not physically injured.
UIPD detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and identified Beasley as one of the suspects. The investigation is ongoing and the other two suspects have not yet been arrested. A campus alert was not issued because the incident occurred off campus.
Please note: Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and criminal charges may change or be dismissed as part of the court process.
