URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department has arrested two 18-year-olds in connection with an incident that prompted a Campus Safety Notice on Wednesday.
Jaiden N. Feller and Antonio J. Edwards, both of Urbana, were arrested at about 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after being identified as the offenders in an aggravated battery incident which occurred late Tuesday night at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana. Neither is affiliated with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
It was reported that a U. of I. student was standing near the main entrance of the Illini Union when he was approached by two people. One of the offenders said to the student, “I like your backpack,” and pulled at it. The second individual struck the student. The offenders then ran from the area. The student was not seriously injured, and nothing was stolen.
Security camera images were obtained after the event, and investigators were able to identify Feller and Edwards. Preliminary charges include aggravated battery and mob action.
The investigation is ongoing.
