LER (or ILIR) students have been starting their careers wtih bp - or Amoco- since before the bp/Amoco merger in 1998. In fact, the first endowed fellowship for then-ILIR students was started by former Amoco executive Wayne Anderson. Now, bp continues to provide scholarships each year for LER students. This year is no exception, and we're excited to promote their brand as part of our run-up to the LER Scholarship Reception.
This summer, bp hired two remote interns, Madeine Sy and Emily Magid. Both will be returning in full time roles in the People & Culture Graduate Rotational Program upon graduation in December. LER alumna Amy Patton emphasized their commitment to hiring in an economic downturn in the Wall Street Journal, and was quoted saying "What I think the industry has learned from the '80s is that we cannot turn the pipeline off."
Madeline holds bachelor’s degree from Scripps College, and was a Watson Fellow at the Watson Foundation, Donor Relations Assistant/Advisory Committee for the Los Angeles Opera, and a Marketing Coordinator at Pasadena City College, prior to the bp internship. Emily holds a bachelor’s degree from UIUC; she was Graduate Assistant for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, an HR Intern at ETA Hand2Mind, an HR Intern at Buehler, and an LAS 101 Intern.
If you'd like to explore the People & Culture Internship, the priority deadline is close of business September 14th and you can find the opportunity at https://www.bp.com/en/global/corporate/careers/students-and-graduates/locations/united-states/early-engagement-programs.html. Here is an excerpt from their posting: As a first step, nothing prepares you better for a career with us than an internship. Our internship program provides hands-on, career-specific experience working full-time, usually during summer break. You will work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to learn about and help to solve some of the most important issues we face. You will experience genuine collaboration, and work alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues, while you work on live projects and operations, using the latest equipment and technology. Our teams come from all kinds of different cultures and backgrounds – so an HR career at BP is always going to be exciting, substantial and full of incredible opportunities.
Every year, we take interns studying a range of disciplines into our summer internship program, many of whom go on to join us full-time when they graduate. Opportunities exist in all major areas of BP to explore your career dreams and develop the technical and professional skills you will need for a successful career, while earning a competitive salary and learning about the world of business.
"bp is a global energy company, creating long-term value by helping to meet growing demand for energy in a safe and responsible way. We operate in more than 70 countries around the world. We find and produce oil and gas on land and offshore. We move energy around the globe. We manufacture and market fuels and raw materials used in thousands of everyday products, from mobile phones to food packaging. The energy we produce powers economic growth and lifts people out of poverty. The way heat, light and mobility are delivered is changing. We anchor our business in these changing patterns of demand, rather than in the quest for supply."
We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with this global giant, and we're proud to continue the relationship.
