  • Scholarship Partner Highlight: Raytheon Technologies

    Raytheon is in its second year as a Scholarship Partner at LER, and is now known as Raytheon Technologies. The defense contractor finalized its merger with United Technologies Corp. this summer to officially form Raytheon Technologies Corp. (NYSE: RTX). They announced their “merger of equals” last year to create one of the world's largest aerospace and defense companies with 195,000 employees and roughly $74 billion in 2019 net sales.

    Raytheon Technologies has combined legacy expertise in aeronautics, defense weapons, cybersecurity and information technology. Collins Aerospace Systems specializes in aerostructures, avionics, interiors, mechanical systems, mission systems and power controls across commercial, regional, business aviation and military sectors. Pratt & Whitney designs, manufactures and services aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems for commercial, military and business aircraft, including the F-35 program. Raytheon Intelligence & Space specializes in developing advanced sensors, training and cyber and software solutions. LER alumnus Dan Almasy, MHRIR 02, is the  Vice President of HR for this business. Raytheon Missiles & Defense provides solutions to detect, track and engage threats, and Steve Ratner, MHRIR 01, is the Vice President of HR for the business. 

    Raytheon has long sponsored an HR development program, affording candidates the best training and development available. The company offers a two-year rotation focused on developing leadership talent for a dynamic HR organization. Candidates will gain exposure to strategic issues in business and HR, focused professional development opportunities, and interaction with top executives throughout Raytheon Technologies. In addition to the two-year rotation, they offer a 10-12 week summer internship.

    This summer, Titus Thames was an intern with Raytheon Technologies. Titus is a nine-year veteran of the Army National Guard, and has been  a stubstitute teacher at Champaign Unit 4 School Distruct, and has worked on campus as a Therapeutic Services Graduate Assistant, a student worker at the Counseling Center, and an HR intern for the Chez Family Foundation Center for Veterans in Higher Education. In addition to his graduate work at LER, he holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in Community Health.
