Knowledge about basic worker protections is a crucial component of any job readiness program. This new curriculum supplies workforce development staff with the tools to empower job seekers with knowledge of their rights. In partnership with the Chicago Jobs Council, Alison Dickson, an Instructor with the Labor Education Program, has trained thousands of at-risk workers and staff at frontline workforce organizations across the region about workplace standards. Now, LEP has made the Workers’ Rights Curriculum available to all Illinois-based workforce development organizations, so that jobseekers across the state can be prepared and knowledgeable about their rights on the job.
To date, over one hundred thirty organizations and unions from across the country have downloaded this groundbreaking curriculum. Alison has received accolades from both government officials and thought leaders on its accessibility, breadth, and ingenuity. Due to popular demand, she is now seeking funding to replicate her efforts in other states.
