Alumnus graduation speaker, David Hanrahan, delivered his recommendations for success to LER graduates on Saturday, May 13.
David's message to students focused on the three most important factors for long-term success that he has identified throughout his career. He discussed the natural inclines and declines in motivation that may cause employees to leave positions too soon - suggesting that graduate seek to align optimism and motivation. He also recommended the hard work of increasing emotional intelligence and self-awareness as tools to navigate career challenges. David concluded by sharing a story about his work at Twitter, which demonstrated the importance of intellectual curiosity in building towards any goal. Working in concert, these factors support success and act as antidotes to doubt.
Upon graduation from the School, David began working at Shell. He later held positions at Change.org, Twitter, and Electronic Arts, where he spent the majority of his career scaling and innovating HR and Recruiting functions in the technology industry. David is currently the VP of People Ops at Zendesk in San Francisco.
We thank David for his time and insight as we look forward to the many successes the Class of May 2017 will achieve.
