On May 22, 2018, LER broke ground on a $6.2 million classroom addition and building enhancement, the largest capital project since the original building opened in 1962. We are nearing completion of this exciting change, and are looking forward to welcoming a new class this fall. Please join us on September 12-14 for our LER Building Celebration and Alumni Weekend.
This weekend will begin with an Investiture ceremony for Professor Michael LeRoy, who will be receiving the LER Alumni Professorship at 3:30 p.m. That evening, we will have an alumni social (TNP!) at the new Illini Inn beginning at 8 p.m.
On Friday, you have a chance to mingle with faculty and scholarship partners at a morning coffee at 9:30 a.m. Students will spend midday meeting the scholarship donors at our Scholarship Reception. We will then have an alumni leadership talk featuring Mr. Alan May,Executive Vice President, Human Resources at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Alan will lead a presentation and discussion titled, "HR In Silicon Valley…Is Past, Prologue?" in the new Nancy Puccini Lecture Hall.
At 5:30 p.m. that day, we will have our Building Celebration, featuring Chancellor Robert Jones and Provost Andreas Cangellaris with official remarks beginning at 6pm. Celebrate with us with hors douerves and cocktails as we enjoy the new space and recognize our donors who supported the $6-million project. We would like to give special thanks to those who named space in the new area, including: R. Wayne Anderson; Emerson; The Menzel Family; PepsiCo; Adeline Jo Puccini; and Carl Soderstrom, M.D., and family.
On Saturday morning, we will have a pregame tailgate at the LER building on the new Soderstrom Plaza starting at 9 a.m. The Illini will take on Eastern Michigan at 11 a.m. We will have information on ticket purchase as it becomes available - so check back soon!
