Alumni Spotlight: Shuyin Chuai, MHRIR 2004
Shuyin graduated from LER with a Master’s of Human Resources and Industrial Relations in 2004. She has remained extremely active in the University of Illinois community ever since and has served as the Shanghai Alumni Chapter President since 2009. Shuyin has held senior HR and consulting positions in China with Flowserve Corp, Aon Hewitt, and Capelle Consulting. In these roles, she has served a wide range of clients including multinational corporations, state-owned enterprises and local Chinese companies. Since 2011, she has been with McKinsey & Company in Shanghai where she serves as an Organization Practice Expert focusing on “driving large scale transformational change in clients’ organizations and helping clients unleash potential in their organization on both team and individual levels.” When asked to comment on why she chose to begin her career with a degree from LER, Shuyin said:
“I chose the University of Illinois because it is a multi-disciplinary university where I could immerse myself in many programs and get to know and learn from people different from me. I chose the School of Labor and Employment Relations because I knew I wanted to do something to make people, teams, and organizations better as a whole. I still remember my professors. They are all role-models for me who not only fed me, but taught me how to fish for myself. LER also offered a wide alumni network which provided tremendous coaching in my early career.”
