Alumni Spotlight: Isabel Dong, MHRIR 2013
Isabel graduated from LER in 2013 with a Master’s in Human Resources and Industrial Relations. During her time in the program, she held a summer HR internship at Cummins Inc. in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. After graduation, she returned to China to serve as a Global Management Trainee with Anheuser-Busch InBev – a position she secured through on-campus recruiting at LER. She has since moved on and is a Plan HR Manager with Beiersdorf in Shanghai. We recently asked Isabel to comment on her time at LER and her career:
“Looking back, I can’t believe it has been more than two years since I graduated from LER. Studying in LER was so much more than going to classes - it also helped me to understand what an ‘HR Professional’ is. One of the most important lessons I learned in LER is that you have to be your own master and seize every opportunity. I have also learned a great deal from my peers in LER. As an international student, it was a great experience to get a better understanding of American culture and make new friends.
My first job after graduation was with Anheuser-Busch Inbev as a Global Management Trainee. The company hosted info sessions and interviews right in LER for international students offering positions in China after graduation. I’m now working at Henkel as a Specialist in Compensation & Benefits and HR Operations. I mainly deal with recruitment package calculation, recruitment agency management, and HR process improvement. The network I built up in LER is a great support system for me during career transitions and even in daily work.”
