Student Spotlight: Olivia Schifferer, MHRIR 2019
Olivia Schifferer received her master’s degree from LER in December 2019. She came to LER from the Psychology department at Illinois where she majored in I/O Psychology and Organizational Communications with a Leadership Studies minor. When Olivia discovered the LER program she knew it would be a good fit because she loved a mix of both human behavior along with a business facing environment. When asked why Oliva decided to join LER she stated:
“I chose LER because, in addition to a world-class education, it provides a strong community for HR professionals to network and develop. Due to LER’s vast alumni network, current students are exposed to countless recruiting opportunities across industry. The support we get from faculty, staff, and peers is a constant reminder that LER was the right choice for me.”
Olivia completed an internship for General Mills (GM) supporting their Innovation, Technology, and Quality organization in Minneapolis. Olivia was impressed with her internship as she was able to provide value and work on real projects that have a major impact on the overall organization. Another quality that Oliva enjoyed about her summer internship was that the culture of GM allows for leader accessibility through coffee chats, forums and presentations for newer employees of the organization. Olivia took full advantage of these opportunities and has come to find that the LER network at GM is immense and integrated throughout the organization.
