At the December 2017 Convocation Ceremony, LER will celebrate the successes of 19 students who completed their MHRIR degrees through the online program. Two years ago, each of these students took an intrepid leap with us as the first cohort of students to earn their degrees online. Below are two recent success stories of our new alumni.
Jeni Reinke recently accepted a role at HARIBO of America as Human Resources Generalist, after over four years at Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation. Of the knowledge gained through the online program, Jeni cites change management, employee motivation and performance, and HR management and strategy as crucial to her substantial role in hiring and employee relations. She writes, “Although we are based in Rosemont, IL, we have employees all over the country and it is important to our culture that we approach employee relations in a fair, uniform, and sensible way. In addition to our nation-wide presence, our company itself is a highly recognized international brand . . . Knowing how to navigate and motivate is incredibly important!” Jeni, like many of her peers, came to the online program with substantive professional experience; the online program was an opportunity to refine and grow expertise to take forward into her new role.
Andy Chung, another member of the first cohort, has seen accelerated career advancement as a result of the online program. When Andy started at LER, he was living in Chicago, IL, and working in a consulting role. The online program provided an opportunity to build a diverse network of professional peers and develop competencies that he could immediately implement with clients. Upon graduating, Andy joined Synchrony Financial as Associate Vice President of Human Resources, where he focuses on talent management and workforce planning in a competitive financial services market. The online program, Andy writes, “has been the best professional decision thus far in my early career. This degree not only taught me and disciplined me well in the HR/business profession, but it has propelled my career into exciting new waters. . . . interviewing for a role with a new organization was pretty intense, arduous, and took over three months, but they were impressed with the acumen I've attained largely thanks to the MHRIR degree.” Andy’s trajectory demonstrates the power of integrating online learning with on-going professional experience.
Jeni and Andy are two examples of how online degrees can propel the careers of motivated, engaged HR professionals. Their successes and those of their peers have built the foundation for continued excellence through the online MHRIR.
