February is the month of love, but here at LER, we're calling it LERve. Not only is LER the leading institute of educating future human resource professionals, we've also had our hand in starting several happy families. We thought we'd share a few of these LERve stories with you all on our Alumni Blog. Enjoy!

When were you at the School of Labor and Employment Relations and/or the University of Illinois?
Kim and Paul Ramsey are both graduates of LER (‘84).
How did you meet or start dating?
Paul met Kim on the stairs of LER on the very first day of school. Being a native New Yorker, Paul drove up to the building and asked Kim for directions to the Illini Union. She could tell he was not from around here because he mispronounced Illini. She quickly informed him that he may want to pronounce the school correctly. They had three classes together while studying under Wally Hendricks, Peter Cappelli, and Peter Feuille. Fun fact is that Kim and Paul were responsible for running the LER Halloween party in the LER lounge. See picture.
If you were dating while in Champaign-Urbana, what was your favorite date night locaton?
Kim and Paul hung out at Garcia’s Pizza and White Horse Inn which are both closed down. In addition, they both loved going to Fighting Illini football games – especially the year they went to the Rose Bowl.
When were you married?
They were married in 1986 and David Bomzer, fellow LER alum (’84) stood up in their wedding. He remains one of their closest friends today. In addition, Kim and Paul have 4 children – Zack, Krysta, Katie and Jake. Krysta is an LER grad (2014) and works as a Performance Management Program Manager at Google in San Francisco and Katie is an LER grad (2017) and works at BP in the HR Challenger Program at BP’s oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana.
What are the Ramsey's up to today?
Paul is a CHRO at Applied Systems in University Park, Il. He has accountability for HR both domestic and international. He has always been a generalist at heart. Kim is the President of The Executive Edge, Inc., a national consulting firm specializing in Executive Development, Organizational Development, Strategic Planning and High Potential Development. She is honored to be an adjunct faculty member at LER this Spring and is teaching Talent Management. She has long been passionate about helping others reach their full potential.
Kim and Paul love traveling and enjoy splitting their time between California, Illinois and Florida.
When was the last me you visited campus together?
Paul joined Kim and David Bomzer on campus when they served on a speaker’s panel for the LER590 Talent Management class. Never did they imagine that 30 years after they met – they’d be in front of the LER class. You never know...

We started dating after LER in 2015 but as we have visited together Sakanaya is a favorite for both.

We got married in October 2017 in Peoria, IL and celebrated with a ton of family and friends.
What are the Esquivels up to today?
We are finally back home in Chicago! After all the moving post-graduation, we were really excited to come back to Chicago in 2019. We currently live in the city with our 20 month old son, Danny, and are awaiting the arrival of Baby Esquivel #2! Aran is currently an HR Manager for PepsiCo. After spending some time at home with Danny, Daniel is looking forward to starting a new opportunity in the coming weeks with IRI.
When was the last time you visited campus together?
We recently visited campus in January for a PepsiCo event at LER. It was great catching up with the staff and seeing the recent renovations! (Jealous) We also got the chance to visit our favorite restaurant, Sakanaya and warm the little one up to his future university.
Are there any other favorite memories or stories you’d like to share from your time together on campus?
Daniel and Aran took their engagement photos in Champaign, and took some at the LER building as well.
