  • Information for all Students for Fall 2020

    Practice Rooms - Lockers - Instruments - Technology Information for Fall 2020 (Students)
     

    Practice Rooms

    1. School of Music Majors and Minors registered for Applied Lessons in Fall 2020 will have access to an assigned practice room. Students will be assigned to a specific room with up to 3 other students.
    2. All students wishing to use the practice rooms MUST be registered for MUS 499 PR for 0 credits along with Applied Lessons. Once registered, please use the Practice Room Request Form available through the link below. Your request will be cross checked with the MUS 499 PR roster.
    3. Practice room registration begins on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 9:00 AM.
    4. Once you are registered for Applied Lessons and MUS 499 PR, please fill out the Practice Room Request Form.
    5. Percussion, harp, organ, and harpsichord should inquire directly with the area Professor for information. Students in this group must also be registered for MUS 499 PR.

    Once your request is recieved and cross-checked, you will recieve an email with your room assignment. Keys will be distributed beginning Tuesday, August 18, 2020 by appointment.
     

    Lockers

    • Available on a first come first serve basis.
    • To request a locker, please use the Locker Request Form beginning on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 9:00 AM (submissions time stamped prior to that time/date will be canceled)
     

    Keyboards and Microphones

    The School of Music and the College of Fine and Applied Arts have provided 50 USB microphones and 40 keyboards for students to borrow, free of additional charge, for their studies during this unprecedented time.

    Adorama Camera in New York has also donated an additional 35 USB microphones and 15 lightning plug specific microphones for students to use.

    To obtain a keyboard and/or microphone:

    1. Items are first-come/first-serve. (your need does not need to be justified or proven so please don't be shy!)
    2. Items will be available at MB 0330/0326 beginning at 1:00 PM on MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2020 until 4:00 PM. Items will also be available on TUESDAY, AUGUST 25 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
    3. Items will be due for return/renewal by December 20, 2020 with proof of Spring registration (late fees and borrower responsibilities do apply).

    Lanyards and ID Badge Holders

    Human Resources has asked that all students wear their student IDs and have them visible while in the buildings. This will be effective August 17 until further notice.

    Why:

    • Assist with ease of entering and ID verification for building access.
    • Safety
    • Mask compliance

    Music Ops will be distributing lanyards and ID holders for your convenience when you pick up a practice room key (or you can just ask Dr. Mandel), but you can use whatever lanyard/holder you choose!
     

    Graduate Student Studios

    Graduate Student Studios will be preassigned. Dr. Mandel will be sending out an email early next week regarding assignments and key pick up information. 
     

    Instruments

    Woodwinds, Brass, and Strings Supplemental Instruments – your supplemental instruments required for the course will be pre-assigned and you will be given the combo and due dates with instructions via email.

    Percussion Methods – a mallet pack will be assigned to you, please arrange an appointment to pick up the mallet bag at nmandel2@illinois.edu.

    All other questions should be directed to your instructor.

    Studio Instruments:

    Check out by appointment only with the permission of your area professor.

    Fall 2020 hours (subject to change at any time)

    8/24/2020 – 11/20/2020

    Music Building and Smith Hall

    Monday thru Friday – 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM

    Saturday – 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

    Sunday – 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM

    Harding Band Building

    Monday thru Friday - 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

    Saturday/Sunday - CLOSED

    EXCEPT:

    9/7/2020 – University Holiday (Labor Day) – CLOSED

    "Go" Week:

    Monday 8/17- Friday 8/21 – 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

    Saturday 8/22 – begin Fall semester hours

    Building Access Procedures are still being finalized with the University, however, you can assume the following:

    Music Building

    • CLASSTIMES - You will need to check in with a Wellness Associate prior to entering the building through a single door on the North Lobby or South Lobby.
    • Non-Class Times - You will need to enter through the North Lobby and check in with either the a) Wellness Associate, b) SoM student worker, or c) use the sign in/sign out sheet located on the lobby table.

    Smith Hall

    • CLASSTIMES - You will need to check in with a Wellness Associate prior to entering the building through a single door, TBA.
    • Non-Class Times - You MUST have an assigned studio space with card access for entry to the building. Enter through the card access door on the South East side of the building.

    BUILDING HOURS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED

    **Please note that building hours and procedures are subject to change at any time due to changing circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and University protocols**
