Doctoral students must pass the Preliminary Exam and the Final Exam. A student may proceed to the Preliminary Exam after s/he passes both Qual 1 and 2.
The Preliminary (oral) Exam comprises the vetting of the research project proposal (which students will develop in 528B) by the four members of the Preliminary Exam Committee; only one member of Musicology or Composition/Theory faculty is required for the committee.
The Final Exam is the last stage of the doctoral program and occurs after presenting all degree and/final project recitals.
