What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I enjoyed the company culture, the nature of my work, and the people that I worked with. My manager was a U of I Ag Comm alumnus and I really enjoyed learning about his career path.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The most difficult aspect of my internship was learning new video software.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experience in the Ag Communications program prepared me for this internship as did past internship experiences and professional development opportunities.
Advertising 490 with professor Katie Abrams helped me the most in preparing for this internship because I learned skills in ’emerging media in agriculture’ and was able to apply those to my website projects.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
This internship, along with two other internships with John Deere, prepared me for my future career because I was able to see that John Deere is the company I want to work for. I have accepted a full time job offer with John Deere for the marketing representative program and after three internships I know this is the perfect fit for me.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
I recommend that students treat their internship like a three month long interview. Be on your best behavior, work hard, and learn all that you can from those you meet and work with.
