Internship | Marketing Intern at The Champaign School of Music
Duties
My duties involved setting up email blasting for new music classes, creating internal flyers promoting events such as concerts and recitals, creating external flyers promoting the school and it’s brand, and managing all social media content.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I loved the flexibility to do whatever I thought would work! Between another Marketing Intern and I, we developed, strategized, and initiated wide scale, local marketing campaigns. We each learned about the process and what works through flooding ourselves in real life scenarios.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
By far and away the most difficult aspect was figuring out what did and didn’t work in marketing and changing strategy for future campaigns. It was a great lesson to learn but certainly not an easy one.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
Illinois provided me access to amazing instructors with real world experience that were honest about their experiences. A few professors in particular helped not only prepare me, but guide me through a relatively open opportunity.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
This internship taught me valuable skills in not only developing and analyzing marketing campaigns across different print and media, but it also taught me important skills in basic personal interaction with staff and consumers.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS and don’t be afraid to ask professors for help! Some professors might have a hard exterior, but when you reach out, all of them have amazing and valuable advice to give!
