What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I had an increasing amount of responsibility during the internship, eventually writing a 2,000-word cover story! I was always learning something new and challenged to cover topics I was not familiar with.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The 1.5 hour commute to work each day!
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My journalism classes (mainly reporting, editing) prepared me to tackle the challenges of the internship. I felt confident in my abilities because of both my classes in Media and my experience as a reporter/editor with the Daily Illini.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
I worked alongside professionals, and learned a lot about how a “real-world newsroom” works, which will be valuable for any future career.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Never say no! Challenge yourself everyday in an internship, and you will gain invaluable experience.
