What did you most enjoy about your internship?
The people I work with. I feel like a part of the team, rather than just an intern.
My boss also allows me to try new projects I may not have a lot of experience with. She also gives me good feedback, so that I can learn from each one.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
Balancing it with school is my biggest difficulty. It’s off-campus, so by the time I get there I only have a few hours to actually work. My boss works with my schedule to maximize my time there.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My classes in the College of Media have given me ideas for projects. They also have helped me have a critical, detail-oriented eye on everything I submit.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship has given me invaluable marketing experience. Things like marketing plans and survey analysis were new for me. Those skills are now things that I will be able to put on my resume and bring with me in future positions.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
I recommend that students ask their bosses how they can get more involved. Bring them ideas for projects you have. Be proactive and don’t be afraid to ask questions! It is your responsibility to make the experience extraordinary.
