What did you most enjoy about your internship?
One thing that I enjoyed most about my internship was the people that I worked with. My supervisor was always supportive and my co-workers were fun to be around and I felt comfortable around them. I was always included in Monday morning meetings and was always given the opportunity to voice my opinion without feeling apprehensive.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The most difficult aspect of the internship was making sure all of the logistical things of a video shoot went smoothly. On day-long video shoots, it was essential to make sure everyone had food and drinks. At times, it would be stressful driving athletes around to their video shoots and making sure they were on time.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experience at Illinois and in the College of Media really helped me prepare for this internship. Through Illini Productions, I had so much experience using Avid video software as well as using other production equipment such as cameras, lights, etc.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship taught me what it’s truly like to be a producer for a sports network. Every little detail counts and I have learned that if you stay organized and confident in yourself, you can be successful.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Every internship is going to be different. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big name company like ESPN or CSN Chicago, all that matters is what you take from it and what you learn from it. These internships are so important and can only help you succeed in the future.
