Internship: Television Production Intern - City of Chicago Television
What were your duties?
- Attended departmental meetings
- Conduct interviews at City meetings and other events
- Collecting B-Roll and other footage at City meetings and other events
- Put together/edit footage
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
The most enjoyable part of my internship was getting to explore the City of Chicago. I never really took the time to travel the Chicago, however this internship gave me a chance to experience every aspect of the City of Chicago.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The most difficult aspect of the internship was getting acclimated to the everyday operations involved with a city's television production team.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experiences at Illinois and in the College of Media prepared me by giving me the basic skills needed to succeed. After starting my internship I realized that there was nothing new really being taught. Everything that I learned within my Broadcast-Journalism classes was carried over into my internship experience.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship prepared me for my career by giving me experience in the political side of broadcast-journalism. It gave me insight into what a typical news station may go through on a regular basis; chasing down events, political figures and being resourceful. I was also able to sharpen my skills in editing, interviewing and fact checking.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
I would recommend staying positive and exploring every avenue when searching for an internship to best fit you. Don't just take the first opportunity that makes itself available; take time to research what it is they will require of you before you verbally commit.
