Internship: Marketing and Public Relations Intern at Christie Clinic
What were your duties?
I design various branding and logos for the physicians of Christie Clinic. I also research and develop content for Christie Clinic's website as well as for their internal website. Another one of my duties is to write press releases to help promote Christie Clinic's events as well as their physicians.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
A part of my internship that I enjoy is getting hands-on experience in marketing and public relations. It is great to use what I've been learning in class in a real working environment.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The most difficult aspect of my internship has been time management. Balancing my school work, my part-time job, and my internship has been tricky but it has been a great experience to learn about marketing and public relations in the working world while I'm taking those classes in school.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
The College of Media does a really great job of brining professionals from different areas of media to come to campus and present to students. I have always enjoyed going to these presentations because it gives you some insight on what these fields are like. Going to these talks has prepared me to have some understanding of what working in marketing and public relations was going to be like before I even started my internship.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship has prepared me for my future career by giving me insight on how marketing and public relations work in a working environment. Being able to see first hand how fast paced this industry truly is has prepared me for when I start my job after I graduate.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
I would recommend applying to lots of internships and apply early. Even if you think you may not be the most qualified applicant, apply anyways. You never know what could happen! Also, summer internships are the most popular so consider applying for an internship during your fall or spring semester.
